Adaptive PE Services Description

Adapted PE is physical education which may be adapted or modified to address the individualized needs of children and youth who have gross motor developmental delays.

The three types of Adapted PE Services are:

  • Consult : The Adapted PE staff will talk with the general education PE teacher, para-educator, or other staff to give ways to adapt or modify activities, games, etc. to ensure that the student is able to perform at the best of their ability in the general education PE class. The adapted PE teacher will attempt to be in the class to observe and help as often as possible during their allotted time.
  • Direct : The Adapted PE staff will be in the regular education PE class to assist the student instead of telling the regular education teacher or para what to do to make the student successful.
  • Pull Out Service : The Adapted PE staff will take the student off to the side to work with them or possibly have a separate gym time in order to give them the best service they can.

With a firm and unwavering belief that all children have value and must be cherished, we will work cooperatively toward our goal of establishing and maintaining approved classes and related services for all exceptional children.  While in pursuit of this basic goal, each participating district will function as a full and equal partner regardless of size.  Special education cannot and should not be developed separate and apart from regular education.  School improvement of any kind must be a cooperative effort between the personnel of the local districts and the staff of the helping agency.
